I moved to Fresno, CA from Missoula, MT five months ago. I followed my lovely boyfriend here after he got his first journalism job. I lived in Missoula for 18 years and Montana for my whole life. I had been itching to leave and have a great adventure. Unfortunately this hasn’t turned out to be a great adventure. Fresno has few redeeming qualities. I could write a long list of things I don’t like about it. But I won’t bore you with that. Plus it’s so hard to be away from our friends and family. We feel like out lives are being suspended as we wait for a year to go by and then we will pick up and leave. In the months that I’ve been here, I have knitted so much. I find it so relaxing, distracting and satisfying. It has helped me cope with this miserable time in my life. I wouldn’t know what to do without it. So I’ve decided to dedicate a blog to my knitting. I’m afraid I might not be computer savvy enough for it, but we’ll see how it goes. The picture below is our apartment. It might be the only thing I like in Fresno.
Knitting in exile

where are you from in MT? i’m a third generation missoulian. i don’t know if this will be solace, but the first big move takes most people at least a year to get used to (depending upon the place, it may take 5!!). when we moved to vancouver bc, at 2 1/2 years i finally felt like we were settled and had friends, then we moved at 3 yrs. pittsburgh has been a much smoother transition, in part thanks to a knitting store near us where i found a lot of fun people. it’s funny to learn how to live in new places.
hope things feel better and i’m excited to see what you knit
cheers,
cosy
Hi hon,
Ilove your apartment.
Knitting is good.
I miss you and I am sorry that Fresno sucks.
I have been in that circumstance too.
There are a couple of places that I would like to live in again but lots more that I wouldn’t.
love you
T
It is a good thing to have something that you so enjoy doing when you are somewhere that you really don’t want to be. I’m really sad that things haven’t gotten better in re Fresno :[ Is there still hope that it might? If not, I hope at least that the time passes quickly. Miss you, Karen
Your blog is not boring! I love your blog! The socks for your mom are great colors. The spinning class sounds fun. One of my friends has one of those big weaving looms in her house is that whay they are called? Anyway way cool!
What does waiting moderation mean?
It means that it’s waiting for me to approve the comment you made. I’m glad my blog isn’t boring you! I’ve never seen a weaving loom before. I bet she makes some awesome stuff with it!
